COMMUNITY UNITED BEHIND NELDA

“I was extremely dismayed to see that Glen Maxey had decided to run against you since I have felt for several years that you are doing an excellent job as Travis County Tax Collector. Please add me to your list of supporters.”

Ruth Marie, Travis Co. Precinct 133

“Nelda won my support the old-fashioned way - she earned it. When the tax collector is also the top vote-getter, you know she must be special.”

John Sharp, former state comptroller

“Although I supported Glen in his run for TDP chair and I’ve never met Nelda Wells Spears, I’m strongly supporting her for re-election. Why is Glen challenging her? Since I don’t believe he can even pull it off, I don’t see the point in even discussing his suitability for the job.”

Kernan Hornburg, Travis Co. Precinct 263

“Travis County taxpayers have been counting on Nelda’s exceptional professionalism and compassion for years - and so have I. We need exactly the kind of balance and integrity Nelda brings to her job.”

Sam Biscoe, Travis Co. Judge

“I really don’t know why Glen is running against another Democrat. Nelda is quiet and has a good operation. We should be running against Repubs!”

Donna Beth McCormick, Travis Co. Democrat

“When it comes to doing her job, you don’t lecture Nelda - you take notes. She has steadily but surely built the state’s most effective local tax office, bringing in the revenues we need to fund law enforcement and other our vital services to keep our communities safe.”

Greg Hamilton, Travis Co. Sheriff

“When good solid Democrats like her do an outstanding job in office and also serve as role models for our community, we have a political and a moral obligation to stand by them.”

Charles Soechting, former chairman Texas Democratic Party

From a letter address to Nelda Wells Spears dated November 9, 2007:

“I am writing to compliment your staff. A few months ago, I went to your office on Airport Boulevard… My first impression, upon entering the office was the customer-friendly attitude of your receptionist. In many tax offices, people have to wait in line forever and then have to deal with people who seem to act as if it is an imposition to have to wait on you. But that is not the case in Travis County….”
